David was a superb home inspector. The first good sign was when he showed up on time, on the day we scheduled and got right to work. The overall process of purchasing a home is a daunting task, especially when it is your first home and you have never been through the process before. I was very impressed by the thoroughness of the inspection and in the manner that he went through each step. I was also impressed and very thankful for the amount of time he spent with me explaining everything he were doing and the tips he gave on home maintenance throughout the process.

We’re in the process of buying our first home, and we chose David based on a recommendation from our realtor. We were nervous about the inspection, and (based on warnings from family/friends) we were prepared to feel overwhelmed with all of the issues that could come up.
David showed up early to the appointment, and was already taking notes about the building’s exterior when we arrived. Throughout the inspection, he made the process easy and straightforward, helping us to understand and prioritize the various issues that he found. Not only was he very knowledgable and detailed, but he also communicated in an engaging and clear manner that left us feeling well-informed and much less anxious.

David is great! We purchased our house from the previous owner eight months ago and the property never went on the market, but a neighbor in the real estate business recommended David’s services very highly as a home inspector.
Although at that stage we did not require a formal pest or home inspection report, for a very reasonable fee David took the time to crawl under, over, around and through the whole house with us, explaining to us in detail what kinds of work and expenses to expect. As first time home buyers that was an invaluable experience, lent credence by the fact that he is a licensed pest report inspector as well as home inspector.
David’s advice on the property has proven to be spot on. He told us lots about the history of the neighborhood, identified the major areas of work to be done– complete with anecdotes and experience of possible pitfalls– gave accurate estimates of what our costs would be, and gave us advice on what to look for in hiring contractors.
I got the distinct impression that David does this work out of a passion for local architectural history, and vocation for appreciating, analyzing and troubleshooting structures. We’ve consulted with him on several occasions since buying, and he is always willing to help, with the tireless energy typical of those who really love their work.
Perhaps what impressed me the most was how methodically ethical David is– he was careful to tell us when he was giving us personal as opposed to professional opinion, and was careful to always give complete options when responding to questions about specific items. For instance, I very much got the impression that, while David is certainly well connected with contractors, he maintains a professional aloofness in explaining the options and looks for a match of services to requests instead of just trying to dole out business to an old boys’ network.
We really can’t overestimate how grateful we are to have come across David, and even though I’ve never had occasion to hire another home inspector for comparison, my intuition tells me that David’s must certainly be one of the best. We highly recommend him, five stars is probably not enough.

Well, we went back to David to help us with a place in Cole Valley. He totally got us on the right track and we sealed the deal..
Now it’s been like 4 months later and he’s still helping me figure out what the heck to do with our garage. I feel like we’ve made a friend and partner for life, and we are EXTREMELY lucky to know David!

David has been an amazingly helpful contact throughout our home buying experience. He did a superbly detailed inspection on a place we ultimately bailed on (not because of inspection issues), and since has provided great advice and ways to think about things. Will definitely get him to do the inspection on our next find.

Dave did a great job with our initial walk through on our new house and says he is always happy to get calls. Didn’t make us feel stupid about our basic questions and a really thorough walk through.

We’re first timer home buyers and David was the perfect introduction to the world of building inspection. He was our realtor’s preferred home inspector and we can see why…
We learnt so much about our house from following David on the inspection – he pointed out things that require fixing, things we should consider fixing as well as spots to watch out for/ check periodically. He also entertained our seemingly crazy questions with utmost sincerity (we don’t know anything so we threw everything at him).
Overall, thank you David – we really appreciated your help and guidance!

I can not say enough good things about David from Arch Home Inspection. Our Realtor used him for our home inspection. He was friendly, detailed and meticulous in looking at all of the aspects of our home — from a tiny water stain on a cabinet to measuring moisture in the attic. As a first time home buyer, I had an endless list of questions and he answered all of them thoroughly and made great recommendations. I walked away with a great understanding of what I needed to do to maintain my house and also a handy dandy online packet that I could easily reference.
The most impressive part was when we had a pipe issue in the inside of the wall about 5 months later. I called David in a panic (not knowing who to call) and he came over in 10 minutes. He helped to resolve the problem and stayed to get me on track with the developer, who fixed the issue. I can’t say enough good things about David; his evaluation and support is above and beyond any contractor or home service we have ever worked with.

We had our home inspected by David Milne, owner of Arch Home Inspection in San Francisco. We were very impressed with his inspection. Prior to our meeting, we were extremely nervous and stressed out. David walked us through the inspection process and was extremely detailed. Although there were some potential issues with the house that needed immediate attention, David was able to put them into perspective. We now know much more about construction and home maintenance than ever before. If you’re a first time buyer and really nervous or simply looking for a straight forward inspector, I highly recommend using this company.
